The glorious sun squig. This sculpt was made for a competition by my friend Erick, aka GoobinsGitz[link to his insta]. The first annual sculpt-a-squig competition in October 2023. #CAVEMUNCHA
This was one of my first posts on instagram, when I was just getting into the online miniature hobby community. This was one of the first competitions I've entered and I just so happened to win. I was sent a lovely set of metal models from Erick as a prize.
A squig is a creature from the warhammer universe. Red ball with a face and legs. Often ridden and tamed by goblins and orcs, but mostly night goblins. These goblins are emblazoned with lunar iconography because they worship the bad moon.
So with that knowledge in mind, I decided I wanted to make a squig based on goblins who worship the sun. Then what if the squig looked like the sun? To really drive this concept home I also made a little goblin with some sun iconography to match the squig.
Being one of my first sculpts it's very chunky and lacking in fine detail, but that limitation ended up being a style I really enjoy. That chunky style worked great for molding and casting with no equipment, which I ended up doing a lot of.
This squig later inspired a whole warband of other models to fit with it. The first of these were made with some great sculpts by Erick. These are just the first of many to come.
